Clappers are "young terrorists" whose circulatory systems have been pumped with a chemical close in composition to triglycerides that makes their blood explosive. The chemical's similarity to triglycerides causes medical examiners to mistake it for being caused by a high-fat diet, instead of an explosive transfusion. They get their name because they detonate by bringing their hands together in powerful applause. While some explode with the sheer force of their hands, others need detonators, which look like Band-Aids, to activate the explosion.

Clappers are exempted from unwinding on account of the explosive chemicals that are never entirely taken out of their systems.

Because of the spontaneity of clapper attacks, public applause was banned in several places.
